Solomon P. 1st married Louisa NUTTER, on September 2, 1886, in Harrison County, West Virginia. Two children were born to the marriage: Harvey A. (1887-1951, m. Vergie Marie SAITER and Nettie Matilda WEBBER) and Arious Vanburen (1890-1970, m. Emaline BRITTON). Louisa died in 1896.

The youngest daughter almost certainly died before 1910; there is no record of her after the day of her birth. Atha died birthing that baby.

Solomon Preston died of typhoid fever; three years later, his widow Lucy died of tuberculosis, and his children were orphaned.
