Charles E. Terry Dies

Charles E. Terry, 202 East Street, veteran custodian of the Citizens National bank who retired about five years ago, died in the Newman Memorial County hospital at 4:10 o'clock this morning.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock in the Roberts-Blue chapel. The services will be conducted by the Rev. George C. Davis. Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery.

Mr. Terry was born December 26, 1879, in Lebanon, Ill., a son of the late Manuel and Louise Terry. He moved with his parents to Emporia in 1880. He attended the Emporia schools, and was one of the earliest classes to graduate from the Emporia High school. He married Rossae H. Harris in Emporia September 19, 1906, who survives. He is also survived by three sons, Kenneth E. Terry, of Los Angeles Calif.; Paul J. Terry, 831 Cottonwood, and Charles A. Terry, Kansas City, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. Joanna L. Hayes, Los Angeles, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Mamie Hughes, Chicago; four granddaughters and five grandsons. He was a member of the Second Christian church.

Mr. Terry was one of Emporia's best known colored residents. He served the Citizens National bank many years and was a community leader.

The Terry Services

Funeral services for Charles E. Terry, 202 East street, who died Monday in the Newman Memorial County hospital, were held Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock in the Roberts-Blue chapel. The services were conducted by the Revs. George C. Davis, C.L. Williams, pastor of Mt. Olive church, W.A. Chambers of St. James Baptist church, and LeRoy Hay, pastor of the First Christian church. Condolences and acknowledgments were read by Mrs. Frank Golden. Singers were Mrs. J.J. Carson, Edna M. Geralds, Mrs. Allen Carter, Miss Elma, Mrs. Emma Ervin, Mrs. Rose Williams, Mrs. Pinkie Jackson, Mrs. M.E. Davison, with Mrs. A.J. Armstead, accompanist. Pallbearers were Alonzo Walls, Isaac Carson, Frank Golden, Claude Dell, W.E. Carter, Cordie Collier.

Out-of-town persons attending were Mrs. Joanna T. Hayes, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Terry, Kansas City, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Earlie Harris, Kansas City, Mo.l Mrs. Thompson, Kansas City. Kas., and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Jenkins, Topeka.
