Revolutionary War Soldier, DAR Ancestor # A053751

"died in Anson. Aged 93 years. His name is also written Hale. He served on picket guard under Major Baldwin, given on list returned May 22, 1775; reported detailed under Capt. Reuben Dickerson. A headstone marks his grave."

Clarence Almon Torrey writes that Amos married 1) Betsey Davis in Lunenburg, MA on 2 Oct 1769. She was the daughter of Matthew Davis. Amos married a second time on 28 March 1808, in Anson, Maine, Esther Howes/ Hawes.

After his son Amos drown at the Carratunk Falls in November 1800, he raised his grandson Amos who was born 25 Sept 1798.

Among the historians, there is agreement that there was another son Benjamin who died young. Hannah had a disability. In his will, Amos made provisions for Esther and Hannah's care.

Amos applied for pension under the Act of June 7, 1832. His claim was disallowed because he had served less than 6 months of (continuous) service.

He is buried in the woods near Dinsmore Cemetery in Anson.
