LESTER H. BEHNKE

Lester H. Behnke, age 74, of Reedsville, died on Sunday.
He was born Nov. 30, 1927 in the Town of Rantoul, son of the late Fred and Alice (Kleinow) Behnke. He married Erma Juedes on June 5, 1948. She preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 1975. He then married Mernabelle Polifka on Oct. 30, 1876.
Lester farmed in the Town of Maple Grove until retiring in 1981. He also worked at the Reedsville Equity for many years. He was a member of St. John St. James Lutheran Church in Reedsville. He was active in many church and school board activities. He also served as constable for the Town of Maple Grove for many years. Survivors include his wife; Mernabelle, Reedsville; seven daughters and sons-in-law: Joanne (Roger) Rische, Appleton; Dianne (Jerome) Witkowski, Ripon; Suzanne (Raymond) Bubolz, Reedsville; Rozanne (Ralph) Bohrtz, Greenleaf; Julianne (Scott) Free, Manitowoc; Luanne (Jeffrey) Gast, Marshfield; Lorianne (Thomas) Holdcroft, Greenville; 19 grandchildren: April Fischer and fiancé Matt Ashbeck; Heidi (Chad) Biesterfield; Eric Fischer; Brian Fischer; Tobin Witkowski and fiancé Jennifer Oelke; Tyler Witkowski; Andrew (Heidi) Bubolz; Amanda Bublz; Adam Bubolz; Heater (Nick) Mayer; Joshua Bohrtz; Jacob Bohrtz; Hannah Bohrtz; Jesse Bohtz, Samantha Free, Rebecca Gast; Erin Gast; Cassandra Holdcroft; Kaelyn Holdcroft; and great grand-daugher: Michaela Bubolz.
He is further survived by five step-children: Roger (Kathy) Polifka, Crivitz; Rozanna (Tim) Birdk, Burlington; Steven Polifka, Milwaukee; John Polifka, Windsor, CO., Judy Polifka, Arlington, Tex., four step grandchildren: Traci Polifka; Brian Polifka; Laura Bird; and Nathan Bird; three sisters and one brother-in-law: Loretta Krepline, Reedsville; Zapora Abel, Brillion; Dorcella (Milton) Lau, Reedsville; and a sister-in-law: Deloris Behnke, Brillion.
He was preceded in death by a grandson: Jordan Free; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Cordula (Walter) Malle: Elvena (Al) Bartel; brother: Wilmer Behnke; two brothers-in-law; Arthur Krepline; Allan Abel.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John St. James Lutheran Church in Reedsville.
The Rev. Timothy Nommensen will officiate. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery, Reedsville. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
The Wieting Funeral Home in Reedsville is assisting the family with arrangements.
