HERBERT A. NICHOLAUS

Dr. Herbert A. Nicholaus died Sunday, May 2.
Funeral services and burial were held at St. John and St. James Evangelic
Lutheran Church, Reedsville.
Dr. Nicholaus retired from Lake Forest College in 1974, after teaching there
for 32 years. He was chairman of the Business Administration Department and
professor of Economics. He was recognized for a quarter century of service
to the college on Honors Day in 1967. His career depicted an affinity for
mathematics and finance, including an extensive interest in students beyond
the limits of the classroom. Before entering the teaching profession, he was
an accountant for a brokerage firm and insurance company in Milwaukee. Dr.
Nicholaus graduated with honors from Lawrence College in Appleton, and received
his Masters and Doctorate Degrees from the university of Wisconsin. He was a
certified public accountant by examination in Illinois and Wisconsin. He was a
member of various academic societies and is listed in "Who's Who in the Middle
West" and "Who's Who Among Men of Science".
Dr. Nicholaus is co-author of several textbooks in the fields of economics,
money and banking, and public finance. He was vice president and director of
First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Waukegan, Ill., for 26 years.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a son and daughter-in-law, D. Alan and Lorraine,
and a grandson, Bret Randall.
Visitation was held at Kelly Spalding Funeral Home, Highland Park, Ill.
