He was of the Baptist Faith, was a U.S. Navy veteran and was an honorary crewmember of the Battleship Massachusetts, which he served on during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Dennis, whom he married on July 6, 1941, in Missouri; two sons, Francis J. Dennis of Cheyenne and Joseph Richard Dennis of Des Moines.
