She immigrated to Texas with her husband and their 3 surviving children: Johann, Mariana, and Joseph. They arrived on the ship Frankfurt on 27 April 1881 in New Orleans, Louisiana after a voyage of 29 days; they then sailed into Galveston, Texas on a smaller packet ship.
The family settled in Frelsburg, Colorado County, Texas where they were engaged in farming.
Margaretha Vitek Dornak died on 16 Feb 1883 in Frelsburg, Texas at the age of 54. She is buried in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. Her headstone has weathered beyond identification but church records document her burial here.
After her death, her family moved to Nada in Colorado County, Texas.
