--5th daughter of Isaac A. Whitley and his first wife Talitha Parker. The family lived in Union County, NC in 1910, in Lancaster County, SC in 1920 and moved to Charlotte a few years later. Loma's stepmother died in 1928 and two weeks later, her father was shot and killed during an attempted robbery at his store. In 1930, Loma was boarding with a family in Charlotte and working as a nurse for a dentist.
