W.E. Phillips Died Yesterday

Heart Trouble Responsible For Death Of Well Known Sycamore Township Farmer.

W.E. Phillips of Sycamore township, died yesterday, March 30, at his home northwest of Sycamore. Death was due to valvular trouble of the heart. He was 63 years of age and leaves a family. Interment was made today in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Death of W.E. Phillips

Neodesha Sun: W.E. Phillips, aged 63, one of the pioneers of Neodesha and of Sycamore Valley, died at hishome six miles southwest of Neodesha yesterday morning at 3 o'clock of a complication of heart and kidney trouble.

Funeral services were held at the home this afternoon at 1 o'clock, conducted by Elder F.L. Pettit, of Neodesha. Interment in the Independence cemetery.

W.E. Phillips was a native of Indiana and came to Neodesha about 43 years ago where he started a harness shop. He was married while living in Neodesha, to Matilda J. Squires, sister of A.F. Squires, who died about 22 years ago leaving two sons, now C.A. Phillips, of Joplin, and Uriah Phillips, of Cleveland, Okla. Both are here to attend the funeral. Two other sons of this union died, one at the age of 2 years and the other at the age of 18 years. Before his wife died Mr. Phillips had moved to the farm in Sycamore Valley. After a few years of widowerhood he married Mrs. Mary Wilson, of Sycamore Valley. To this union were born two children that survive with their mother, Claude, aged 18, and Clara, a few years younger.

Mr. Phillips was a good citizen and a substantial farmer. He was township trustee of Sycamore township, Montgomery county, last year.
