Son of Albert and Edna DuBois Kennedy of Sanfold, WI.

Blackie joined the Navy as an aviator in 1939. He served with distinction on the USS Yorktown during World War II, and went on to an illustrious career with the Navy. Highlights of his service include the NATO Defense College, tours of duty at the Pentagon, and Chief of Staff of Task Force 77 on the USS Enterprise.

From 1965-1966 he served as Commanding officer of the aircraft carrier USS Independence. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association and The Early & Pioneer Naval Aviators Association. He was also a founding member of the Association of Naval Aviators and was on the launch committee for the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, FL.

Blackie was an avid golfer, gardener, and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn "Cookie" McCook Kennedy who he married in 1946. his daughter and son-in-law, Kris and Dave Kopp of Conyers, GA, and son and daughter-in-law, John and Kelley Kennedy of High Point, NC, a brother and sister-in-law Tom and Julie Kennedy, sister Joyce Kleusch, sister-in-law Elaine Kennedy; grandchildren, Joanna and Emily Kopp, and Jake Katie and Maggie Kennedy, and many nieces and nephews.

Blackie was preceded in death by daughter, Kay Diane Kennedy, brother, Clarence Kennedy, and sisters Margaret Wadsinski, Eleanor Bertram, Mary Highum, and sister Anne Kennedy.
