Mamie Friend Strong, 79 years old, passed away on June 13, 2012 at her home. Mamie was born October 16, 1932 near Dugginsville, MO to Harrison and Iva Lawson Friend. She grew up in Ozark County, where she spent most of her life.
Mamie married Mearl Strong on July 20, 1949 in Mountain Home, AR and they welcomed two sons, Gene and Larry (Dude) Strong.
Mamie owned and operated a beauty shop for many years and was also an assembly worker at Rawlings in Ava, MO for many years. She loved spending time with her large extended family, her boys and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mamie enjoyed cooking and was famous for her chicken and dumplings.
Among her favorite hobbies were making quilts for loved ones, bowling, card games, traveling, particularly to the cabins in Wisconsin with family, working in her flowers and a good chinese buffet!
Mamie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Mearl; two grand-daughters, two sisters, three brothers, six half siblings and two step siblings.
Mamie is survived by son Gene and wife Gay and son Larry and wife Becki; five grandchildren, Sherrie, Pattie, Chris, Karen and Toby. nine great-grandchildren, Megan, Madeline, Sophie, Corgan, Carlie, Callie, Leslie and Lanie; five sisters, two brothers and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Mamie will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home Chapel, Gainesville, MO with Dale Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Lilly Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at Mamie's house in Gainesville on Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to Lilly Ridge Cemetery, Riverways Hospice, or to the charity of your choice.
