Vivian was the 11th child born to Susan Evelyn "Evva" Boyd and Ira M. Rundell. She was born on the farm homesteaded by her father. She received her elementary education at Harmony School and graduated from Stafford High School in 1919 with a Normal Training Teacher's Certificate. She then taught two terms at Taylorville. She married Frank D. McFadden at the Rundell home July 20, 1921, by Rev. S. W. Keller. They farmed in Stafford Co. until 1925 when they moved to Gray Co, near Montezuma, to continue farming.
