USNA Class of 1950, First Lieutenant Donald Kobey was living in Warren, AZ when he entered the service and was the pilot of a F-80C Shooting Star fighter interceptor with the 80th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 8th Fighter Bomber Group.

On March 6, 1952, while a gunnery range, his aircraft crashed into the water at high speed.

He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
