Iva was born in Oklahoma and spent her younger years in Corpus Christi, Texas. High school years were in Albuquerque, New Mexico except for one year 1935 when she was in Utah with her Uncle. She had to make up one credit when she was a Senior in high school which was made up in Summer school.

Iva met Henry Cook when he was visiting his grandfather Henry Westerfeld, who lived next to Iva and her parents. They were married August 15, 1936 in the mountains on the Cook ranch at Bull Creek, Pecos County, New Mexico.

In 1938 the family moved to Washington, looking for work and ended up at Coulee City, Washington where Henry worked on the Coulee Dam. By 1940 they moved to Shelton, Washington. They started growing plants as a hobby and ended up with a business, Cook Plant Farm which they had until 1971. Henry had passed way in 1970.

1971 Iva and her mother moved to Olympia where she worked in florist shops. Her father had died in an auto accident in 1961.

1981 she moved from Olympia to Bremerton where she worked at Paul's Flower Shop and then Kitsap Library plus take care of her mom. After retirement she moved to Council, Idaho and couple years later to Cuprum, Idaho to be nearer her daughter and husband.

Iva was preceeded in death by her parents, brother, sister, husband and her youngest son who died in 2011.

At her request there was no funeral. She will be laid to rest in Shelton next to her husband.
