Death of W. D. Lawson

Wm. Davis Lawson died at his home near Brumley in Miller County Friday last and the remains were laid away at the Warren cemetery, 4 miles south of Brumley Sunday, Rev. Wm. Huffman officiating at the funeral. He was stricken with paralysis on the 7th and died on the 9th of November without regaining consciousness.

W. D. or Bud Lawson as he was familiarly known was a son of John Lawson and was born in Cole County some miles east of this city November 18, 1836, lacking but a few days of being 81 years of age. His father raised ten children to be grown and married--one of the brothers was the late John M. Lawson--the survivors of the family are G. F. Lawson of this city; Ed Lawson of the state of California, and a sister, Mrs. Susan Price also of the state of California.

W. D. Lawson spent the early days of his life in this county, principally in Linn township. Over 30 years ago he moved to Henry county, thence to Miller county, where he died. He was married three times--his first wife was Miss Helander Jobe whom he married in 1856, five children survive this union-in 1876 he was married to Miss Margaret Johnson-three children survive this union--in 1876 he was married to Miss Margaret Johnson--three children survive this union. In 1904 he married Mrs. Edna Lane of Miller county who survives him. The eight surviving children are Sylvanus Lawson of Oklahoma, Permelia of Woodland, California; Maggie of Latham, Mo.; Graves of Oklahoma; Bart, of New Mexico; Dock and Oscar Lawson of Kansas and Salllie of Montrose, Mo.

In his early life he attached himself to the Baptist church at old Union just west of Jamestown and has always been a consistent Christian man. He was all his life a man of great energy and industry and a consistent, good man--youthful in appearance until poor health reached him a few years ago. One of his daughters lived in California a number of years ago and died here, the wife of the late Wm. M. Barnhill.
