Beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Winafred Lake Carroll, age 88, passed away March 26, 2004 surrounded by her family.

She was born August 23, 1915 in Blanding, Utah to William Bailey and Sarah Emma Lake. She married Evan H. Carroll on June 7, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple. Evan and Winafred were the parents of three daughters, ElRae (Dick) Bench, LeAnn Carroll and Pat Hague.

Winafred was lovingly called "Ted" by her family, a nickname that was given to her by a favorite uncle. Winafred graduated from South Summit High and served an LDS mission to the Texas-Louisiana Mission. One of her fondest memories was of the "little meetings" they held for the Primary children where they taught them the gospel. She served faithfully in her many and varied church callings. Winafred loved working with the children. She worked for more than 30 years as a secretary for Wasatch Electric where she was loved by all who knew her. When the Jordan River Temple first opened Winafred was called as an ordinance worker and served for more than 18 years. She had the special privilege of being assigned to help in the brides room and had the gift of making each bride feel truly special. It was a calling that she truly loved.

Winafred was so proud of her three girls, she was very close to her nine grandchildren and loved her 27 great-grandchildren. "Sister Carroll" was lovingly referred to as the "Grandma Carroll" of the Taylorsville 12th Ward for many years.

Winafred is survived by her daughters, nine grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Boyd (Helen) and George Halvor (Aileen) Lake. She is preceded in death by her husband, Evan, who died in 1991, her parents, five sisters and one brother.
