He grew up in Wakefield, and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1943. He entered the Army on June 30, 1943, as a member of the 168th Combat Engineer Battalion. He was in the Battle of the Bulge as a Tech 5. He has five Battle Stars and his unit was awarded the Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation for Valor at St. Vith and the Belgium Croix De Guerre. He also received the Soldier's Medal.
Paul met his first wife, Anna Chanda Millett, as a pen pal during World War II. When the war ended, they married in 1946. Paul and Ann lived and worked in Florida for 42 years and returned to Maine in 2004. Paul Retired after working 42 years for AT&T in Maine, Texas, New Hampshire and Florida.
Paul enjoyed singing, rebuilding and flying small airplanes as a private pilot and his church activities. He was a 32nd degree Mason of Temple Lodge 25 A.F. & A.M., Winthrop. He was member of the post polio support group of Brevard and North Central Florida Post Polio Support Group, and the Southwest Christian Church of Ocala. A recent highlight for him was a trip to Washington, D.C., on the Ocala Honor Flight for WWII veterans.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Anna; his sister, Eva Mae Richards; and his brothers, Woodrow, Elwin and Lewis Millett.
He is survived by his wife, Avis Millett, of Ocala; his daughter, Julie Clark, and her husband, Ron, of Middlebury, Conn.; his son, Richard Millett, and his wife, Jill, of Alexandria, Va.: four grandchildren, Jennifer Weigel and Joachim, Dr. Ronald Clark, Jr. and Jessica, Paul Clark and Nicole, and Dr. Christian Millett; six great-grandchildren, Emily, Andrew and Lily Clark, Johannes and Julianna Weigel, and River Clark; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
