An Accident
The report comes in from Five Mile that James Grady, who lives in town, was killed by a runaway team. James and a young man unknown, were at Five Mile after a load of wood. The man was hunting as they drove along and was out of sight of the wagon, when he heard the team running. He caught up as soon as possible and found they had cramped the wheels so as to stop the wagon and in doing so had thrown Grady off the load. Grady was insensible and as soon as the man found that he could not rouse him, he started for town for assistance, taking the team with him. On his arrival here, coroner Kelly left immediately, followed by a spring wagon driven by George Reed. It is hoped Grady is alive, but it is impossible to say, as the man who came in said he could not tell whether he was alive or not.

Death of James Grady
Upon the return of Coroner Kelly and others who went out to the scene of the accident yesterday afternoon, it was found that James Grady had been instantly killed by the wagon running over his neck severing the spinal column. His body was brought in by Charles Reed in a spring wagon and taken immediately to Undertaker Barney. An inquest was held and found that the neck was broken and the body terribly bruised.
James Grady was a well known citizen of Billings, having lived here since the town was started. He was deputy sheriff under Sheriff Ferguson in '83 and '84. He leaves a wife and six children, one of the daughters being married. His family has the sympathy of the community in their misfortune.
The funeral will take place at 10 o'clock tomorrow at the Episcopal church.
