JOHN BASTA OF SOUTH OF UNION DIES SUDDENLY
John F. Basta, age 66, passed away October 13 at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City. funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Miles City Saturday morning at 9 o'clock, with Father Hennessey officiating. Following the services the remains were brought to Glendive for interment, and mass was said for him at the Glendive church at 7:30 Saturday morning.
The deceased has been a resident of Bloomfield for the past 28 years and was well known locally. He leaves to mourn besides his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Helen Brost of Fallon; four sons, J. Edward Basta of El Paso, TX, Rudolph Basta of Nome, N. Dak., Joe B. Moidl of Kansas City, Mo., and Charles Basta of Boston; a brother, Anton Basta of Niobrara, Nebr., and a sister, Mrs. Antoniette Jansky of Chicago.

Funeral Services Held for Pioneer
John Basta Passes in Miles City hospital Last Wednesday
Funeral services for John F. Basta of Union, who passed away at a Miles City hospital last Wednesday morning, October 13, were held from the Sacred Heart Church of that place on Saturday morning. Following the last rites, the body was taken to Glendive where the committal rites were held. Pallbearers included neighbors and friends of the deceased. Mr. Basta had recently undergone an operation to correct an old ailment and lived only a few days after the operation.
John Basta was born on October 17, 1871, at Prague, Bohemia, and would have been 66 years of age a few days after his death. He came to America when a young man, living in the east, and came to Montana from Chicago, Ill., about 1910 to homestead in the Big Sheep Mountain region near Union. He has since been engaged in farming and ranching.
Those of his immediate family who survive are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Helen Brost of Union, and four sons, John Jr., Joe of Kansas City, Mo., Rudolph of North Dakota and Charles who is a member of the navy. One son, Emil, passed away in 1915.

John F. Basta, well known farmer of Union passed away last Tuesday at a hospital in Miles City, following an operation there about ten days ago. For many years had farmed a few miles south and west of Union and he was a highly respected man. He leaves to mourn his wife, two married sons, Joe of Kansas City and Rudolph of Nome, North Dakota, the youngest son, Charlie, United States navy, and a daughter Mrs. Henry Brost. There are seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Miles City on Saturday morning, and services at the cemetery in Glendive in which Mr. Basta will be buried. The body was kept until the arrival of the family. The condolences of many friends here are extended to the Basta family.
Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Basta, and three boys of Nome, North Dakota arrive Friday evening by car.
Charlie Basta, who is stationed in Boston, Mass. returned home, summoned by his father's death.
