Obituary:

Paul Carlisle, age 87, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, Iowa after an extended illness. Paul E. Carlisle was born November 5, 1916 in Willow Springs, Missouri the son of Dallas and Myrtle (Parks) Carlisle. The family moved to Iowa in 1923. Paul attended school in Elliott, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Clarabell Edwinson in 1936 at Horton, Kansas. Paul served in the Navy as a Sea Bee during World War II. They lived in Nortonville, Kansas, California, and Atchison, Kansas before moving back to a farm near Elliott, Iowa where Paul farmed. In 1958 Paul and Clarabell moved into Elliott and operated the Hardware Store. After selling the hardware store, Paul managed the Elliott Bus Barn for the Griswold School District until his retirement. He was a member of the Red Oak Eagles Lodge and the Griswold American Legion.

He was preceded in death by an infant son: Jerry Lee; his parents; wife: Clarabell on February 6, 2003; 5 brothers: Harold, Derrell, Herbert, Dale, and Clyde; and a sister: Thelma Sattro.

Survivors include his daughter: Janice Miller of Elliott, Iowa; son: Dallas Carlisle and wife Emily of Omaha, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren: Jerry "Butch" Miller and wife Linda of Westminster, Colorado; Sherry Franzen and husband Curtis of Elliott, Iowa; Kevin Carlisle and wife Amy of Griswold, Iowa; Kim Johnston of Chariton, Iowa; and Amy Cooper and husband Jason of Vilsek, Germany; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at the Hillside Cemetery in Elliott, Iowa with Pastor Gary Walters officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Griswold Care Center or the Red Oak Good Samaritan Center.
