The Deshler Rustler, Deshler, Nebraska
14 December 1960, Wednesday

Fredrich Henry Ehlers, son of Joachim Ehlers and his wife, Wilhelmina, Nee Meyer, was born June 7, 1868, at Fort Atkinson, Wis. He was baptized in the Lutheran church there. He was also in this church that he knelt at the confirmation altar May 7, 1882.

The deceased came to Thayer County, Nebr., in 1892. The following year, February 9, 1893, he was united in marriage with Louise Schoenfeld. This union was blessed with eight children, all of them living.

The family lived on a farm between Deshler and Hebron for many years. On August 27, 1938, after 45 years of married life, God took Mrs. Ehlers to Himself. The deceased stayed on the farm for five more years, namely until 1943. Then he made his home with the children, visiting them in turn. From September, 1951, he found it most convenient to stay with a daughter here in Deshler, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Warneking.

He had been a member of Peace Lutheran Church for 57 years, and at the time of his death was the oldest member of the congregation, having reached the age of 92 years, 5 months, 22 days.

He had been confined to the home in recent years; the past months his health failed considerably, and death came quietly Tuesday morning, November 29, at about 10:30.

There remain to cherish his memory four sons: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ehlers, Deshler; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Ehlers, Gurley; Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Ehlers, Sidney; Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Ehlers, Hebron. The four daughters are: Erna, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Vortman, Carleton; Mrs. Leona Gove, Lincoln; Irma, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Warneking, Deshler; Melba, Mr. and Mrs. Harold LaRouche, Kansas City, Mo.

There are also 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; one half brother, Wm. Birkholz, Norfolk; three half-sisters, Mrs. Anna King of Topeka, Kans.; Miss Augusta Birkholz and Mrs. Helen Beisner, both of California; besides other relative and friends,

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 2, from Peace Lutheran Church. Interment was in Peace Lutheran Cemetery. The following served as pallbearers: Elmer Vortman, Emil Warneking, Gilbert Ehlers, Walter Ehlers, George Ehlers, and Irvin Ehlers.
