Following graduation, she was employed for a time in factory work in Saginaw. In 1953, Delores met her future husband, Charles G.E. Hill, while he was serving in the US Air Force. The couple were married on June 25, 1955 and made their home in Saginaw. In 1968, the family moved to Marquette where Charles was employed with Michigan Bell Telephone and Delores worked at the Rosewood Bar. She later was employed as bar manager with the Northwoods Supper Club for seven years before becoming one of the first bartenders to open J.T's Shaft. While in Marquette, Delores was very actively involved in volunteer work, especially with the Marquette Junior Hockey Organization, where her husband served for a time as president. Delores served as candy chairman for many years and helped out wherever necessary. She was also a member of the Marquette Lions Club and was involved in numerous fund raising events. In 1989, Charles and Delores sold their home in Marquette traveled extensively for a time before making their home in Ontonagon, near where Charles grew up. True to form, Delores was once again employed in serving the public, this time at Syl's Cafe in Ontonagon. Charles preceded Delores in death in 1994. For the past five years, Delores had made her home in Sault Ste. Marie, near her daughter. Delores was a person of strong will, determination, and possessed a solid work ethic which she passed on to her children. She had a wonderful sense of humor and could remember a joke, tell a joke, and be the focus of a joke, all in good humor. She especially enjoyed her great-grandchildren who were the light of her life. Her other interests included knitting, playing cribbage, going to the casino, and caring for plants and animals. While in Marquette, Delores was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, and currently a member of St. Barnabas Lutheran Church in Sault Ste Marie.
