Auburndale, Wis. - Mrs. S. G. O'Brien, 76, a resident of Central Wisconsin for the past 64 years, passed away at her home here at 3:45 a.m. today. Cause of death was a heart ailment. She had been in poor health for a number of years and was taken critically ill last Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church here, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Auburndale.
Mrs. O'Brien, the former Augusta Helena Lang, was born August 10, 1865, in Aachen, Germany. In the spring of 1866 she came to America with her parents, the voyage aboard a sailing vessel requiring 11 weeks. The family took up residence, where she grew to womanhood.
On Sept. 6, 1886, she married Samuel George O'Brien at Auburndale. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary five years ago.
Mrs. O'Brien is survived by her husband; five sons, Carl Ellsworth of Vancouver, Wash; George H. of West Salem; Samuel Wesley and Robert R. of Rhinelander; and Thomas of Auburndale. Four daughters, Mrs. Herman Riege of Delavan; Mrs. Gordon Whalen of Gordon, Wis.; Mrs. Mae Kearns and Mrs. Oliver Hebert of Milwaukee; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One half-brother, William Lang of Park Rapids, MN.; two half sisters, Mrs. George E. Lant of Los Angeles and Mrs. Arthur Redfield of Stevens Point also survive. Two brothers, Louise and Fred and one half-brother, August Lang, preceded her in death.
