Mr. Russell James Rachel, 76, of Dickerson, died Friday, July 11, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Gladys Poole Rachel for 57 years.
Born Sept. 12, 1920. in Bluefield, W.Va., he was the son of the late [Clarence H.] James and Emma White Rachel.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Anna Jane Poole and husband Ray of Dickerson and Louise Mildred Bodmer and husband Dick of Ijamsville; a son, Russell W. Rachel and wife Sandra Jo of Dickerson; a brother, Jack D. Williams of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He will also be remembered by special friends. Ralph Thacker, Morris Damuth, Lee Smith, Charlie Magruder, John Streams and Gerald Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bernard D. Williams; a sister. Virginia Lutz; and three brothers, Fred, William and Buster Rachel.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 14, at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at Dickerson United Methodist Church, 20331 Dickerson Church Road, Dickerson. Burial will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville.
