Ernest E. Gardner

Ernest Elwood Gardner, 88, of Helper, died Sept. 15, 1990 at a Price hospital.

He was born Sept. 6, 1902 at Thistle to Elias and Clarissa Seeley Gardner. He married Lucille Johnson on Feb. 16, 1924 at Salt Lake City.

He was a member of the Joppa Lodge #26 FAM, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Salt Lake City, recently serving as president of the temple board and other masonic affiliations.

He was elected Helper city councilman for two terms. Helper city honored him, naming the city ballpark Gardner Field. He had many other city and civic accomplishments. He was a past president of the Balance Rock Credit Union and a member of the Brotherhoold of Railroad Trainmen. He retired after 47 years of service with the DRG&W Railroad as a conductor.

He is survived by his wife, Helper; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald Keith and Doris Gardner, Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma Vincent, Provo.

Public masonic services will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at the Mitchell Chapel, where friends may call Tuesday prior to the services. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
