Andrew I. "Andy" Bennett, 72 of Madams Creek, died at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003 at his home, following a long illness.
Born Feb. 23, 1931 in Hinton, he was a son of the late Abraham and Mary Goldie Breen Bennett.
Mr. Bennett had lived most of his life in Summers County. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served his country during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on April 8, 1961. He was a timber man and construction worker until he was disabled. He loved listening to cassette tapes of gospel music and preaching. He also loved visiting with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by one son, Randy Wayne Bennett, on April 9, 1997; one daughter, Deborah Kay Bennett on Sept. 12, 1996; one sister, Thelma Martin; three brothers, Ronald, Joe and Lloyd Bennett.
Survivors include a special friend, Helen Farmer of Hinton; ex wife Freda Fox of Madams Creek; one daughter Ruth Flowers of Hilldale; two sons, Ronald Bennett and wife Decretia, of Tug Creek and Michael Bennett of Madams Creek; and a man he loved and thought of as if he were his own son, Gary Farmer and wife. Datsi, of Madams Creek; three sisters, Mary Bragg of Tug Creek, Lola Ratliff of Madams Creek and Virginia Harrah of Madams Creek; three brothers, Donald Bennett of Madams Creek, Robert Bennett and wife, Juanita of Madams Creek and Arnold Bennett and wife Judy of Ocoee Fla.; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren,, three stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a special home health aide who cared for him, his niece Sandy Surber; and a very special registered nurse, Cynthia Bennett who he loved dearly.
Services were 2 p.m. Sunday, July 27th, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, with Pastor Melvin Wills officiating. Burial followed in the Breen Cemetary on Tug Creek.
Mike Fox, Kevin Richmond, Tommy Harrah, Jackie Ratliff, Robert Bennett, John Reed, Greg Reed and Eddie Harrah served as pallbearers.
Dick Lightner, Sheriff Garry Wheeler, Richard Allen, Hobert Fox, David Fox, Kevin Lee Richmond, and the men of Laural Creek Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers
