HERKIMER - Newell E. Adams, 71, of 230 Bellinger Ave., passed away comfortably Monday, Feb. 20, 1995, in Little Falls, Hospital.
He was born March 8, 1923, in Little Falls, the son of the late Eugene T. and Mabel Newell Adams. A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of Herkimer High School. Newell served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army. Serving in the European Theatre at the Battle of the Bulge, he was taken prisoner of war and had received various medals. On June 19, 1948, he married Betsy Brown in Lexington, VA. Betsy was not only Newell's wife of 46 years, but his best friend. He had worked his lifetime serving the public, holding several retail management and salesman positions with Mungers Department Store, Montgomery Wards, Howlands, The Little Falls Times newspaper and Hummel's Office Equipment.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, the American Legion Post Herkimer, a life member of Michael Pliseck VFW Post #1459 and a member of the Herkimer Volunteer Inc.
Surviving besides his wife Betsy are two sons, Thomas and his wife Ann Adams of Herkimer and Timothy and his fiance Marla of Little Falls,; a sister Marion and her husband Ralph Carona of Mohawk; a sister-in-law, Ruth Zimmerman; and brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Brown, all of Lexington, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer, with the Rev. David M. Underwood, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, officiating. Interment will take place in the spring with full military honors at a time convenient to the family.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 - 8:30 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Little Falls Hospital Development Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank the staff on 3 West, Dr. Michael Heald and Dr. Laurence Lee for their care and compassion during Newell's illness and our friends Connie Huyck and Marion and Richard Ruller for always being there.
