Laura Ford Baxter, 90 of Huntsville, died Monday. Mrs. Baxter was born in Huntsville. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1936 and attended Huntingdon College. Senator John Sparkman arranged for her first job with the Farm Security Administration in Montgomery so she could marry the love of her life, Bud Baxter, who was co-oping with Alabama Power Company and attending Auburn University. The couple lived in Montgomery while Bud was working and attending Auburn. The couple later lived in Birmingham, Phoenix City, and Eufaula. Bud retired in 1971 and the couple returned to their home town of Huntsville. Bud died on December 03, 1992 and Laura continued to live in the family home in Huntsville.

Laura attended the family church, First United Methodist Church, where her father and grandparents attended their entire lives. She was a member of the Billy Scott Sunday School class and the Culture Club of Huntsville. She enjoyed weekly bible studies with her friends in her home.

Her parents, Earle and Ruth Ford, her husband, Bud Baxter, her brothers, Earle Ford Jr., Ralph Ford, and Frank Ford, and her sister, Carol Jackson, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, Glenn Baxter and his wife, Linda, of Tuscaloosa, her granddaughter, Laura Baxter of Tuscaloosa, and grandson, Ford Baxter and wife, Lisa, of St. Louis, Missouri, and a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Larry Riley, Frank Echols, Bob Ford, Penn Dillworth, Bill Jackson, Bill Thrift, Charles Shaver III, and Bob Steffens.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Maple Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Coy Hallmark officiating. Laughlin Service Funeral Home is assisting the family. The family will receive visitors at her home after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ruth Sykes Ford scholarship fund at First United Methodist Church, established in honor of her mother.
