Elvin D. Hittinger Sr.
Elvin D. Hittinger Sr., 82, of Barrington, N.J., died Sunday at his home.
He was born in Rockport, Pa., and was an Army veteran of World War II. He served with the 121st Field Artillery Battalion in the Pacific Campaign and helped to liberate the Philippines.
Before retiring, in 1981, he was employed as a planner/estimator in the Philadelphia Navy Shipyard, for 20 years.
He was past Master of Collingswood Cloud Lodge No. 101 Free and Accepted Masons, a past Nobel Grand of Senatus Lodge No. 76, I.O.O.F., where he was also a past Chief Patriarch of Fraternal Encampment No. 23. He was a past Patron of Chapter 35, Camden, N.J., O.E.S., and was currently serving as Grand Warder, Grand Court of the Amaranth. In addition, he was an active member of Arwames Rebekah Lodge No. 84, the Excelsior Consistory, and the White Shrine.
He was a communicant of the Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church of Mount Ephraim.
Preceding him in death was a son, Elvin D. Hittinger Jr.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former [*]; children, [*], Charleston, S.C., and [*], Warwick, R.I., and six grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church, 74 E. Kings Highway, Mount Ephraim, N.J. Lodge services will be held at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Christian Service at 8 p.m.
There will also be a viewing Friday morning at the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, 211 First St., Weatherly, from 10:30 to 11 a.m., at which time there will be a service at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in Union Cemetery, Weatherly.
Memorial donations may be made to Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church, 74 E. Kings Way, Mount Ephraim, N.J. 08059.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Gardner Funeral Home, Runnemede, and Bellmawr, N.J.
