Alma Bawdon Burned in Auto Fire, Saturday Night

A terrible accident occurred at the H. L. Bawdon home Saturday evening, when the little girl, Alma, aged four, was burned so severely that she died next morning, the little boy, Herbert, aged eighteen months was badly burned and Mr. Bawdon burned so severely that his life was despaired of for a time.

There are various rumors as to how the accident happened. As near as we can find out, Mr. Bawdon came late from his work as most farmers do at this time of the year, and started to fill the gasoline tank on the Ford by the light of a lantern held by the little girl, standing in the back of the car. The side curtains were on the back of the auto and the fumes of the gasoline completely filled the car, and caught fire, and everything and everybody was all a fire at once. Mr. Bawdon jumped for the little girl and ducked her in a water trough which stood near by and then jumped in himself, thus extinguishing the fire on their clothing.

The little boy was in the front of the car and down below the fire and was burned more while being taken from the car than while in the car, and so escaped with slighter burns than the others. Everything about the car that could possible burn, burned, leaving nothing but a wreck.

The funeral services for the little girl were conducted by Rev. Bruce, the pastor of Cedar church Monday afternoon at three o'clock and the remains brought to Ree Heights and laid to rest in Morningside cemetery.

The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the stricken family.

At Rest

Alma Theresia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Bawdon, was born December 26th, 1913 and died September 22nd 1918, aged four years, eight months and twenty-six days. She was of a sunny, loving disposition, gentle and helpful in the home and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She leaves to mourn her loss a loving mother, brother and sister, beside a host of other relatives and friends, While we miss her, we can not wish her back in this world of sin and sorrow, for we know she is safe with Jesus, who loves the little ones and
"doeth all things well,
And we hope sometime to meet her
In that beautiful place He has gone to prepare,
For all who are washed and forgiven;
And many dear children are gathering there,
For of such is the kingdom of heaven."
