Herbert "Herb" O. Bawdon, 94 of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at his home.

Herbert O. Bawdon, son of Herbert L. and Theresia (Dirks) Bawdon, was born on February 17, 1917, in Highmore, SD. He grew up there and graduated from high school. After high school Herb went to Sioux Falls and attended at Nettleton Community College.
Herbert was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart Maxine Ronnie on February 27, 1939, in Highmore. Herb worked briefly in Milbank, SD, until enlisting in the United States Army in 1943. He served in the European Campaign and the Philippine Campaign during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946, and returned to Sioux Falls to work as an electrician. In 1950, Herb started his own business, Bawdon Electric. He ran the business for many years and was later joined by his son until closing the shop in 2003.

Herb was a proud Mason, Minnehaha Lodge #5, and El Riad Shriner. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, DAV, and the IBEW. Herb loved to golf and do woodwork in his shop. He would take time to go out fishing and whether they were biting or not, he made the most out of just being away. Herb was very driven and put his business first, but also enjoyed the simple things like going for Sunday drives with his wife and children.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Maxine; son Beri Bawdon; daughter Brenda Kruse and her husband Tim; grandchildren David Bawdon, Bethany Bawdon, Betheny Kruse, Kyle Kruse, all of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers Harold Bawdon, John Bawdon and his wife Ellen, Highmore, SD; sister Pearl Dittman, Highmore, SD; several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Alma Bawdon.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 pm with a Masonic Service beginning at 7pm on Monday, March 14, 2011, at Miller Funeral Home, 13th & Main. A funeral service will begin at 2 pm on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the Miller Funeral Home chapel with burial at Black Hills National Cemetery.
