Elaine Flanagan, 69, of Marcus, Iowa, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 1996, at St. Luke's Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Rev. Richard Remmes will officiate, and burial will be in the Holy Name Cemetery. Visitation was at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at the Earnest and Rothler Funeral Chapel in Marcus.

Mrs. Flanagan, the former Elaine Marie Dose, was born March 25, 1927, in Marcus. She was the daughter of John "Jack" and Angeline (Clement) Dose. She attended Marcus and Remsen schools and graduated from Marcus High school in 1945.

She taught in rural schools in the Marcus area and then moved to Albuquerque, N.M., where she worked for TWA and the Atomic Energy Commission.

She returned to Marcus in 1950 and married Ray Flanagan on Feb. 5, 1951, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. They farmed many years north of Marcus. After retirement from the farm they moved to town.

She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, St. Ann's Guild, the Exchange Hobby Club and the Quilter's Club.

Survivors include her husband, Ray of Marcus; two sons, Kevin and his wife Connie of Tulsa, Okla., and Gary and his wife Debbie of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Lynn of Sheldon, Iowa, and Teresa L'Angelle and her husband Tom of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Myrna Reynolds and Anita Tonkinson, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren, James and Evan Flanagan and Johnathan and Jared Flanagan.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
