Lynn Marie Flanagan, 57, of Sheldon, Iowa, formerly of Marcus, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Father Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will follow at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at the Earnest–Johnson Funeral Home of Marcus. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m., with a scriptural prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass.

Lynn Marie Flanagan was born July 22, 1952 in Le Mars, Iowa, the oldest child of Raymond and Elaine (Dose) Flanagan. She attended elementary school at Iowa Hospital-School for Severely Handicapped Children in Iowa City, Iowa. She was later homeschooled by Mrs. Pat Ducommun and also attended a workshop for the handicapped in Cherokee, Iowa, for several years.

She moved to Handicap Village (now Village Northwest Unlimited) in Sheldon in 1979, living first in the Freewheelers Cottage and later moving to a waiver home. During her time at Village Northwest Unlimited, Lynn worked at Northwest Enterprises, sorting cans, performing sorting for Oriental Trading, and also owned her own craft business, "Shenanigans by Flanagan."

At the Wansink Center at Village Northwest, Lynn was responsible for sorting the Village mail and preparing residents' schedules. Lynn enjoyed travel, including trips to Branson, Missouri; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a hot air balloon ride.

She is survived by her father, Ray of Marcus; a sister, Teresa and her husband Tom L'Angelle of Flagstaff, Arizona; a brother, Kevin and his wife Connie of Tulsa; a brother, Gary and his wife Debbie of Omaha, Nebraska; nephews Jonathan and Jared Flanagan of Omaha; and nephews James and Evan Flanagan of Tulsa.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Elaine in 1996.
