Josephine Allen, 18 years, 2 months and 26 days of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, her sister, Frances Allen 16, her brother, Charles Allen 14, and five of her friends, Ronald E. Davis 17, Jeanetta Bettie Bray 15, James Ray Richards 16, James Cleo Calhoun 11, and Charlie Simmons 15 were all killed on Sunday, July 21st, 1957 when a Southern Railway train struck their automobile at the Clifty Crossing in Somerset.

The boys had gone swimming earlier in the day and had just been driving around. They had just picked up Josephine and the other two girls minutes before the crash.

Josephine was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky on April 25th, 1939, daughter of Robert Allen and Sarah Allen.

Visitations were held for Josephine, Frances, Charles, Ronald, and Jeanetta at the home of Hoyt and Etra Davis until the time of graveside services.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday afternoon, July 23rd, 1957 at the Somerset City Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky with Dr. Preston L. Ramsey officiating.

Burial followed in the Somerset City Cemetery.
