Leon was born in Bering, Tx. where he attended a two-room school through grade 5, walking one mile each way every day, regardless of weather conditions.

Following completion of a business administration course, Leon was employed by Williams Motor Company, as an auto mechanic.

Three years later (1938) he was employed as a bookkeeper for H. L. Williams Lumber Co., where he worked for 3 years prior to being drafted into the Army Air Force.

Following a training period, Leon served 4 years as an airplane mechanic in Indianapolis, Ind. After being discharged as a master sergeant in 1945, he resumed his position with H. L. Williams lumber in Daingerfield until June of 1947 when he was employed by the U. S. Postal Service, from which he retired as Postmaster in January, 1982.

Leon was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Elouise Kirkham, whom he married November 7, 1942.
