I have compiled a timeline/bio for Father Sauzeau, missionary to New Zealand, using various online sources

The colonial township of Blenheim was developed in the 1850s in an area that was a flax swamp before earthquakes raised the ground level. By 1864 it was the principal town in the province, with a steadily growing Catholic population. Father Augustine Sauzeau SM arranged construction of the first St Mary's Church on a large site in Blenheim's Maxwell Road in 1865 and a complex of buildings that ultimately included two primary schools, an infant school, parish hall, presbytery, convent and high school, grew around the church, which was replaced with a larger building in 1878.

He was born 18 April 1834 at St Hilaire, Vendee, France. He professed on 9 Oct 1859, date of his Ordination not known. He arrived in NZ in 1861 and was stationed at Kauaeroa (near Hiruharama or Jerusalem) with Fr. Lampila on the Whanganui River for 6 months.

His appointments in New Zealand were:

1862 - 1864 Napier

1864 - 1881 Blenheim (first resident priest)

1881 - Meeanee1881 - Timaru

1882, July - Oct 1883 at General Chapter in France

1883 - 1889 First Marist Vice-Provincial, based in Wellington.

He was a qualified medical man before he joined the Society of Mary. He was also an amateur entomologist and won a 'First Class Certificate of Merit' for a display of butterflies which he sent to the Sandhurst Industrial Exhibition in Melbourne in 1879. In 1887 he had a bad accident and his health began to deteriorate. At one time in NZ, he had a horse called 'Barney'.

NZ Herald, 26 Dec 1892 . Death Of Father Sauzeau

One of the Roman Catholic clergy, Father Sauzeau, well known and highly respected throughout New Zealand, died here about eight o'clock this morning. The deceased had been an invalid for some time, but the immediate cause of death was dropsy. He was at breakfast but complained of feeling giddy and expired in a few minutes. Father Sauzeau was 58 years of age, a native of France and had been in the colony thirty years.

24 Dec 1892 The friends of the late Very Rev Father Sauzeau, S.M., are respectfully invited to attend his funeral, which will leave St Mary's Church, Boulcott-street, on Tuesday morning, at 10 o'clock. Solemn Requiem Mass will commence at St Mary's the same morning, at 9 o'clock 31 Dec 1892

In 1865 there arrived in Kaikoura the Rev Father Sauzeau, S.M. from Blenheim. It would appear that Father Sauzeau's appointment to Blenheim eventuated in 1864. The Father paid two annual visits up to 1868, subsequent to which he came more frequently. Father Sauzeau's connection with Kaikoura ceased in March 1876. At the time in question the track to Blenheim was full of dangers for the wayfarers. It was very rough and dangerous in many places, leading sometimes along the sides of steep precipices, over rapid and rugged rivers and again through ill-defined ways. Many were lost on this long and dreary journey. So much for the difficulties besetting pioneer travellers. Noe for a brief account of Father Sauzeau's labors at Kaikoura. In 1868 he raised a fund by subscription , which enabled him to make a purchase of twenty acres of suburban land by the Kowahi Rive and one acre in the township of Kaikoura, vesting the titles in trustees ..
