Newel Dwight Day, age 89, passed away peacefully on October 8, 1998.

On that day he had a joyous reunion with his beloved wife, Melva, daughter, Pauline, and numerous other family members who preceded him in death.

He was born to Rufus and Sarah Lucinda Baldwin Day on January 2, 1909 in Fillmore, Utah. He married Melva Finlinson November 18, 1935 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Fillmore until they were called to serve in the Manti Temple. They are the parents of four children, Pauline, Dwight, Carolyn and Lee. Melva died on November 25, 1976. He married Lucy Finlinson Christensen on April 3, 1978 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He loved his role as dad to her children, Mary Jo, Winston, Karen, Craig, and grandfather to Lucy's grandchildren.

He was called to serve in the Manti Temple in 1974 and loved his work as an ordinance worker and sealer for 18 years. In doing so he enriched the lives of thousands of people from around the globe.

He was active in the LDS Church his entire life and was a bishop, bishop's counselor, high councilor, stake clerk, stake auditor, finance clerk, dance director and held numerous other positions.

He worked for 37 years with the postal service and retired as the postmaster of Fillmore. He was also the accountant for Flowell Electric from its inception until his retirement.

He called square dancing for 35 years and was nationally renowned. He is also famous for his tremendous repertoire of humorous songs which he has performed since before he was married.

He was a devoted husband, father and friend and is loved by everyone who knew him. He was known for his integrity and honesty. He has always been very industrious, helpful and had a great love for everyone around him. He loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

He is survived by his sisters, Velma, D. Rasmussen of Redmond, Utah; and Naomi D. Williams of Tooele, UT; children, Dwight (JoAnn) Day of Salt Lake City; Carolyn (Craig) Andersen of Henderson, NV; Lee (Dianna) Day of Fillmore; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday, Oct. 12, 1998 in the Fillmore Fourth Ward Chapel, 500 South 300 East, at 11 a.m. with a viewing one hour before the services. A viewing will also be held at the Olpin Mortuary, 55 West 200 South, in Fillmore form 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Interment, Oak City Cemetery.
