Son of Charles Stewart (b. ca. 1725-1730 Spotsylvania County, VA, d. November 15, 1807 Wake County, NC) and wife Hannah Kirk (b. ca. 1730-1735 VA, d. January 1, 1823 Wake County, NC) of Cumberland (Harnett) County, NC and Wake County, NC. Husband of Elizabeth Clements.

Probable grandson of Charles Steward (b. ca. 1690/1700 King George County, VA, d. before June 5, 1750 Spotsylvania County, VA) and his wife Mary Proctor (b. ca. 1700 VA, d. aft. March 11, 1773 Spotsylvania County, VA) of Spotsylvania County, VA.

Charles Stewart and his wife Elizabeth Clements were likely married in either Johnston or Wake Counties, NC about 1775.
