Services for Juan M. Caornejo, 71, Portales, will be held Wednesday at 12 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Ulric Pax will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mission Garden of Memories Cemetery. Muffley Funeral Home is handling arrangements. A rosary service will be held today at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Carlos Chavez will officiate. Cornejo died Sunday, Feb. 17, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales. He was born March 11, 1919, in Wellington, Kan. He was a resident of Clovis until he moved to Portales two years ago. He was retired car inspector for the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3015 and Disabled American Veterans; he was a volunteer for the Salvation Army for 20 years, where he served as a Boy Scout Master and president of the Men's Fellowship; and he was a United Way volunteer for 15 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy, Moroco, Algeria and North Africa. He received a Good Conduct ribbon and an American Service Ribbon. He married Phillipa Torres June 11, 1942, in Clovis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Cornejo, and a grandson, John Paul Cornejo. Survivors include his wife, Phillipa, of the home; two sons, Richard Cornejo, Albuquerque, and Johnny Cornejo, Clovis; three daughters, Laura Baros, Portales, and Maria Baldwin and Lucyann Bamforth, both of Albuquerque; six brothers, Julian Cornejo, Shattuck, Okla, Jess Cornejo and Dario Cornejo, both of Wichita, Kan., and Tony Cornejo, Neives Carnejo and Lawrence Cornejo, all of Wellington; one sister, Enidena Olivas, Kansas; and 11 gtrandchilren and seven great-grandchildren. Casket bearers will be Lee Baros, Michael Baros, Beny Baldwin Jr., Ralph Torres, Pete Medrano and Mario Cornejo. Honorary bearers will be Johnny Bamforth III, Ben Baldwin Sr., Dr. James Moss, Dr. Allen Haynes Jr. Jim Burns, Randy Wilcox, Sam Flores, Louie Sedillo and George Torrez.
