Antonio "Tony" Cornejo, of Wellington, Kansas, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at Slate Creek Good Samaritan Center in Wellington at the age of 80.

Tony was born Monday, May 10, 1926 in Wellington, Kansas, Son of the late Julian M. Cornejo and the late Nicasia (Martin) Cornejo.

On September 21, 1946, Tony and Carmen (Esparza) Cornejo were united in marriage in Wellington, Kansas. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Tony was a dedicated worker all of his life. He was a retired Boilermaker for the Atchison, Topeka, Sante Fe Railroad. After that he worked with John T. Stewart for a number of years. Tony then rejoined the workforce and retired from Plessey-Midwest as a Machinist.

Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tony was able to instill his incredible work ethic into his family. He also enjoyed the time he spent with his friends at the auctions on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Tony and Carmen loved to attend live Mariachi dances in Wellington and Wichita. He treasured the time he spent with his family whenever they were together.

Survivors include his Wife, Carmen Cornejo of Wellington, Kansas, Daughter, Gloria Cornejo of Wellington, Kansas, Daughter and her husband, Angie DeFrenchi & Bill Harris of Wellington, Kansas, Daughter, Rachel Hansen and her husband David of Wellington, Kansas, Grandchildren, Robert Renteria and his wife Karla of Wichita, Kansas, Andria Criswell and her husband Duane of Wichita, Kansas, Tytus Cornejo and his wife April of Wellington, Kansas, Justin Cornejo and his companion Adriana Avalos of Wellington, Kansas, Jocelyn Cornejo of Arkansas City, Kansas, Summer Hansen of Wellington, Kansas, Chelsi Hansen of Wellington, Kansas, Amber DeFrenchi of Coffeyville, Kansas, Great-Grandchildren Riley Renteria, Alexandria Renteria, Patience Criswell, MacKenzie Criswell, Julian Cornejo, Maizy Cornejo, Ava Tate, Allarynn Cornejo, Addalynn Cornejo, Julius Manuel Arredondo, Daughter-in-Law, Joyce Cornejo of El Dorado, Kansas, Brother Dario Cornejo and his wife Debbie of Wichita, Kansas, Sister-In-Law, Josephine Cornejo of Wichita, Kansas, Sister-In-Law, Jessie Cornejo of Wellington, Kansas, Sister-In-Law, Mercedes Ybarra-Cornejo of Wellington, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Ralph E. Cornejo, grandson Marcus Kerr, brothers Jess Cornejo, Neives Cornejo, Julian Cornejo, Joe Cornejo and sister Enedina Olivas.

Friends are invited to call on the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, April 19 and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 20.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Vigil Service will be held at the Day Funeral Home, Friday, April 20, 2007 at 7:00 p.m..

Mass of Christian Burial for Antonio will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Andrew J. Seiler of the St. Anthony Catholic Church officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sumner Memorial Gardens, Wellington, Kansas.

Memorials have been established in his name and loving memory with St. Anthony/St. Rose Altar Society, 210 N. B Street, Wellington, Kansas 67152, . Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
