Helen Marie Shiffer died on April 17 in Alaska. She was born in Dodge on July 21, 1914, to Anton F. and Anna M. (Havelka) Tresnak, the tenth of 11 children.
After graduation from North Bend High School in 1931, she taught in a one-room rural school. Helen married Earl William Shiffer on Dec 9, 1933, in Logan, Iowa, and the couple resided in Omaha. They moved to Tulsa, Okla., in 1937 where Helen was employed by Safeway. Between 1959 and 1969 Helen and Earl owned and operated The North Shore fishing resort on Bull Shoals Lake close to Mountain Home, Ark. They retired from the resort business in 1969 moved to Alaska where Helen became the resident manager of the Colonial Plaza Apartments in Anchorage. Earl died in 1986 and Helen moved to Califorina, later returning to Alaska.
Helen is survived by son Jim (Rita) Shiffer, daughter Patty (Debbie Parrott) Shiffer; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren .
