Son of Philipp Jacob GEIGER and of Maria Apollonia BENTZ Geiger (both probably buried with no extant markers in the cemetery in Kuhardt, Germersheim, Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland) and husband of Anna Maria GREIDENWEIS Geiger (burial in Louisiana as yet unknown), with whom he had three children:

– Johann Jacob ("Jake") GEIGER (buried in the old Rapides Cemetery, Pineville, Rapides, LA),

– Franz (later Francis) Solomon ("Frank") GEIGER Sr. (buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Houston, Harris, TX) and

– infant daughter Franziska GEIGER (burial with no extant marker in St. Laurentius Catholic Church Cemetery in Göcklingen bei Landau, Südliche Weinstraße, Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland).

His second wife was Ida TEICHMÜLLER Geiger (burial as yet unknown), whom he married in New Orleans in 1872. No children of this marriage.

In 1851, the year of his immigration to Louisiana, the place of his birth (the village of Kuhardt on the left bank of the Rhine River) belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria.

In Louisiana the English version of his first name (Valentine) was often used rather than the original German form (Valentin).
