After her husband's death, Lucy and her son, Estill, completed his unfinished term as jailer, serving about seven months. Son Ballard had already been elected jailer and he took over the office in October and served a 4 year term and then 4 years as sheriff. After Lucy was widowed, she pieced and quilted quilts for a living.
