Louise Spencer Luffman (1919 - 2012)
Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Spencer Luffman, age 93, will be at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, April 29, 2012 in the chapel of Replogle-Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Bowling officiating. Burial will follow in Latham's Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Luffman died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Northbrooke Health Care Center.
She was born March 10, 1919 in Carroll County, TN, the daughter of the late Lewis Thilburn (Jim) and Dulcie Cotton Spencer and was educated in the Gibson County schools. She married Walter Ray Luffman on October 12, 1934 in Fulton, KY. He preceded her in death on June 1, 1992. Mrs. Luffman worked at the Milan Army Ammunition Plant, retiring in 1981 and was a lifelong member of Medina First Baptist Church, where she taught children's Sunday School. She was a Den mother for the Cub Scouts in the 50's and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. Mrs. Luffman was an outstanding cook, beginning at the early age of 9 when she made her first biscuits under her mother's guidance. She was a skilled seamstress and devoted gardener. She especially loved growing roses of every variety and sharing them with others.
Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, J.B. Spencer.
Surviving are her children, Patsy Luffman Rowland of Cordova, TN, Walter Lyn Luffman of Jackson, TN and Gary Ray Luffman (Sarah) of Bon Aqua, TN; her brothers, James Tera (Peggy) Spencer of Medina, TN and Bluford Spencer of Huntsville, AL; her sisters, Cornelia Spencer (Homer) Cagle of Jackson, TN, Evelyn Spencer Barnes of Medina, TN and Betty Spencer Replogle of Jackson, TN; her grandchildren, Kristi McClain (Mark) Hearn, Holly Luffman, Bryce (Jennifer) Luffman, Lucas (Amanda) Luffman, Alicia Luffman (Laine) Champion and Hayley Luffman Lewis; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers to serve will be Mark Hearn, Bryce Luffman, Lucas Luffman, Laine Champion, Paul Spencer, Jimmy Wilson and Herb Owrey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tera Spencer and Homer Cagle.
The family requests any memorials be directed to the Medina First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 6 p.m. today and from 11:30 - 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
