Martha Lue Burk Benskin entered Glory after 90 years on July 13, 2021, from her daughter's home in Tennessee with loved ones around her. Martha was born June 11, 1931 in Baytown, Texas to parents, Adolph H. Burk and Annie Lorys Tyler Burk. She graduated from Texas City High School and soon after met the love of her life, Walter E. "Sonny" Benskin, Jr. They married and raised 4 children in LaMarque, Texas. She was a devoted member of Highlands Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir, taught preschoolers, and helped establish and run the library. They made many memories camping and traveling in Texas and the United States. She learned navigation at an early age and could give good directions before GPS was created. Martha and Sonny retired to Kennard, Texas where they jointly constructed the log home she had designed. They hosted many fun-filled family reunions and holiday celebrations at the Kennard "farm". Martha was a faithful member of First Baptist Church - Kennard where she continued serving in the choir and preschool. She joined in the community and was known to be Mrs. Santa along with her lifelong Santa in the town parade. She was a reliable member and often an officer of The Ratliff Seniors at the Senior Center, of the Major Jarrel Beasley Chapter of the Texas Daughters of the American Revolution, and of the Kennard Lions Club where she received her 25-year member pin.

Martha was talented in sewing from nightgowns to wedding dresses and even once sewed a tent. She decorated cakes for birthdays, showers, and weddings. She handmade many crocheted blankets, Christmas angel ornaments, quilted Christmas tree skirts, beaded earrings, and other crafts that were presented as gifts to loved ones. When a family member was ill she was known to be a loving caregiver. She enjoyed wearing her Astros shirt and cap and faithfully watched their games with cheers and coaching! Above all, Martha loved Jesus Christ her risen Lord and Savior. Aunt Martha / Momma / Oma was known to lovingly receive new members in the family and make them feel welcome. She will be remembered and missed by all.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Walter E. Benskin, Jr. (Sonny), 4 of his siblings, her son, Walter E. Benskin, III (Bubba), her parents, her brother, Robert W. and Virginia Ann Burk.

Funeral services for Martha Lue Burk Benskin will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2021 in the Kennard First Baptist Church with Tim O'Briant officiating. Interment to follow at the Ratcliff Antioch Cemetery.
