Columbia -- Funeral service for Charles Hammond Hunt, 85, will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mr. Hunt was born October 7, 1924, and followed his wife, Doris, in death on November 21, 2009. Born in Walhalla, he was the son of the late Bert E. and Ethel Hammond Hunt. He attended Walhalla High School where he lettered in track. He joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served for 20 years. He was a Mason and a member of the Pacific Masonic Lodge. He retired to Columbia in 1963 to rear his two children and begin civilian life. After working another 26 years, he again retired at age 65 to start his personal recycling business. His easy manner and love for a good joke made him well known and much loved in the local community. Since all of his ten siblings predeceased him, he is the last of his generation of Hunts.
He is survived by his children, Charlotte Hunt Grecco and her husband, Glenn, and Craig Hunt and his wife, Mignonette; grandchildren, Joshua and Seth Oblachinski, and Alyssa Hunt.
Finally to quote his son-in-law, "He won't feel the need to talk anymore. Now, he is with Doris."
