In the 1900 U.S. Census, ship rigger Stephen Chambers, 56, born January 1844 in Canada, parents born Canada, was living on Union Street, Calais, Maine, with Margaret, 53, born March 1847 in Illinois,, parents born Ireland; mariner William, 29, born August 1870; and Alice, 19, born August 1880, both born in Maine.
They lived next door to son(Thomas) Stephen
They had been married for 31 years and only 4 of their 12 children were still living.
Stephen came to the U.S. in 1849.

Calais, Me. - A six year old daughter of Stephen CHAMBERS was so badly burned while playing before a brush fire Monday last that death came to the relief of the little sufferer the following night. (St. Croix Courier, April 21, 1887)
