Civil War - Enlisted and mustered in on 1 May 1861 at Detroit, Wayne County,Michigan, Company A, Michigan 1st Volunteer Infantry Regiment as a Private; mustered out on 7 August 1861 at Detroit and commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, Company F, Michigan 1st Volunteer Infantry Regiment; transferred from Company F to S on 5 May 1862 and promoted to 1st Lieutenant and Adjutant; promoted to Captain on 27 June 1862 with transfer to Company K on 15 July 1862; wounded in action at the 2nd Battle of Bull Run on 30 August 1862; died of wounds (vulnus sclopetarium - gunshot) on 23 September 1862 in Cliffburn General Hospital at Washington, D. C.
