Rachel (listed as Rachael on grave marker) Rothrock was the fourth of twelve known children of Henry Peter Rothrock (1792-1871) and Lydia Bounds Rothrock (1807-1879), who married 15 Jul 1824 at Crawford County, Indiana.

Rachel married Keen (some records show King) James Cole (1825-1900) on 01 Oct 1848 at Crawford County, Indiana. Rachel and Keen were the parents of three known children, namely:

1. Charles Cole (1851-1871)
2. Andrew Cole (1854-1871)
3. Rosalie Cole (1856-1856)

Rachel and her eldest two sons were on a steamship when it exploded near Memphis, Tennessee and the two sons were killed. Rachel, her husband and all three children are buried at the Cedar (Hill) Cemetery, at Leavenworth, Crawford County, Indiana.
