He was born on January 20, 1934 at Hibbing, the son of Mike and Edna (Jacobson) Seopa. He grew up in Togo were he attended school. He served with the Army Infantry during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge in 1958, Jack returned to Togo and was united in marriage to Barbara Mae McCue at the Bear River Lutheran Church on August 29, 1959. They lived in Bear River and Babbitt for a few years, then purchased a farm in Bear River in 1965, where they raised their family and have since resided. Jack was a longtime member of the Bear River Lutheran Church. He was a heavy equipment operator most of his life and worked construction with the 49er's for 25 years, then retired as a shovel runner from Hibbing Taconite in 1997 after 21 years of dedicated service. He had a committed work ethic and farmed beef cattle for years, which he enjoyed. He liked fishing, hunting and the outdoors.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Seopa; 2 sisters: Irene Seopa Tammi, and a sister in infancy; a brother-in-law, Leon Sandberg; and sister-in-law, Meg Fox.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara "Barb"; two sons: Dan and Rick (Karin); two brothers: Roy Seopa, and Glen (Rita Brabec) Seopa; four sisters: Evelyn Sandberg, Elaine (Jim) Hendy, Carolyn (Wally) Fendt, and Gloria Percy; six cherished grandchildren: Jennifer (Derrick Kinney) Swanson, Cherie, Jonathon, Michael, Shaina and Myranda Seopa; three dear great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Interment in the Carpenter Cemetery.
